Journey through the beauties of Belarus. Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in the village of Old Basils
In 1897-1903 According to the project of the Polish architect Konstantin Voitekhovsky, the church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul was built of red brick. The temple is a 3-nave 2-tower basilica with a transept. The central part of the main facade is completed by a pointed shield, 4-tier towers - high tents.
A ceramic panel for a biblical story is located above the main entrance, the side entrances are decorated with plot stained-glass windows, in the center of the main facade there is a rose window with stained-glass windows.
The artistic expressiveness of the interior of the temple was achieved through the use of ceramics, frescoes, stained glass, sculptures, coinage, wood carvings. The church is located on a hill on the outskirts of the village and is visible for many kilometers! The foundation of the church is lined with several dozen plates with the names of local residents who donated money for the construction of the temple. Now the names are smeared. According to local residents, such an order was issued in Soviet times by a major to make people forget about respect for faith.
At one time, the father of the outstanding Polish singer Cheslav Neman worked in this church. The singer himself secretly came to the temple to sing in the choir. Secretly, because in the 50s for visiting the church you could lose everything: work, a pioneer badge, prospects for the future. Inside the temple, to the left of the altar, artificial caves have been created, which show the exposition: a greeting by the magi of the birth of Christ. There are no such caves anywhere else in Belarus. Without a doubt, this Belarusian pearl of the Gothic Revival will not leave you indifferent.
